The McIntyre Gallery opened in its current location in downtown Regina in November, 1985. Co-owners Louise and Evelyn Durnford established the gallery 16 years ago. With valuable business and volunteer experience, and a keen interest in the arts, they initiated a gallery which would highlight the work of local Saskatchewan artists.

Since its inception in 1985, the McIntyre Gallery has successfully dedicated itself primarily to showing the work of both newer Saskatchewan artists as well as the work of women artists. With an eye for good quality art that is both fresh and innovative in its approach, Louise and Evelyn Durnford have been particularly receptive to the work of emerging artists. Many of the gallery's exhibitions bring new work to Regina audiences that has never been shown in this city or anywhere before. The gallery also represents a number of well-known and established artists, whose work has been widely exhibited outside Saskatchewan.

The McIntyre Gallery holds several exhibitions each year. These exhibitions are located on the gallery's main floor. Representative works by each of the gallery's artists are also displayed throughout the year on the second floor of the building. Many of the artists' works are representational in style. Their media, however, are very diverse: oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, collages, drawings (including pastel, pen and ink), original prints, fabric art, clay and furniture.

Situated in a delightful older home, at 2347 McIntyre Street, the gallery is conveniently located within walking distance of several other commercial galleries in the city's downtown area. The building, whose rooms have not been altered structurally for the gallery space, retains the intimacy of a home. Visitors, therefore, are rewarded with the experience of viewing art in a warm, homelike atmosphere. A former sun-room at the front of the house, for example, provides both a luminous and welcoming entrance to the house as a suitable space to display a number of the gallery's larger three dimensional works.

The McIntyre Gallery is open Wednesdays to Saturdays from Noon to 5:30 p.m. Visitors interested in seeing the McIntyre Gallery's collection can also access the art through e-mail. Most of the art works are available as colour photo images which the gallery will e-mail to interested clients
