What's Happening at the gallery?
Martha Cole will be in an invitational quilt exhibition titled
CANADASCAPES at Laconner Quilt Museum in Laconner, Washington from March
15 to May 15, 2004. The show will then be remounted as part of the Canadian
Quilt Conference taking place in Winnipeg, MB during the last 2 weeks
in May. Martha will also be in another FAN (Fibre Art Network) exhibition
called Altered Shapes which will also be in Winnipeg, MB at the Mennonite
Cultural Heritage Centre from April 23 to June 12 in conjunction with
the Canadian Quilt Conference. On September 24, 2004, Martha will be
the key note speaker at the Piecemakers Quilt Show at the Centre of
the Arts, Regina. Martha exhibited at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina
in 2003.
Laureen Marchand's two-person exhibition with Honor Kever, Bequest,
came home to the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery in Saskatoon in October, after
a 20-month tour that took it across Saskatchewan and to Alberta. Laureen
is currently at work on a new project with the working title of Last
Rose: Notes from mid-life. Meantime, she has been invited to contribute
to Saskatchewan CBC Canada Reads events on March 19 at the CBC Galleria
in Regina with a painting that responds to Alice Munro's book The Love
of a Good Woman.
The Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon has planned an exhibition of Jim
Graham's works from June 11 to September 6, 2004. An opening reception
is planned for July 9.
During November 2003, both Diane Collet and Claudine Ascher
were part of an exhibition entitled Le Corps Masculin at the Art en
Majuscule Gallery in Montreal. Diane has a solo exhibition planned at
this same gallery for the fall of 2004.
Look for Antoinette Hérivel's work in the artist self
portrait show at the Rosemont Art Gallery, Regina in September 2004.
Debbie Wozniak-Bonk will be participating in an exhibition entitled
"An Unsettled Beauty", as part of a larger event sponsored
by the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. "Sights and Sounds of Saskatchewan
Art" will occur at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon
on New Years Eve 2004.
Carole Wylie has a solo exhibition planned for the Fringe Gallery
in Edmonton from May 1 to 31, 2004. From September 2004 to August 2005,
she will be the artist-in-residence for the Quill Plains Region. Carol
has also been approached to participate in the Canada Reads event and
will be also be completing a painting inspired by Alice Munro's book
The Love of a Good Woman. Three of Carol's paintings will be reproduced
in the poetry and art publication Other Voices published in Edmonton.
Another of her paintings is included in the We'moon day book and wall
calendar published in Estacada, Oregon.
For the past four years, Brian Volke has been a member of Tir
Na N'og, a Celtic band based in Calgary. The band has just released
its first cd entitled "Home Again" and featured Brian's painting
"Old Man Blowing His Nose" as well as a watercolour entitled
"Old Man at the Counter" as cover art. If you are interested

In the past year, Iris Hauser has been elected to the board of
CARFAC Saskatchewan. She continues to teach technique classes for the
extension division of the University of Saskatchewan and is a juror
for the Organisation of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) . She also
founded a Symbolist Society to mentor and network with other artists
working in a figurative, symbolic, content driven style. Iris is currently
working with curator Geraldine Parent from Penticton, B.C. on an exhibition
which will be touring public galleries across Canada beginning in 2006.
She is also performing with the Saskatoon Improvisational Dance Collective
in the second annual Works in Progress (W.I.P.) festival of contemporary
choreography.
Zach Hauser has been elected vice-provincial representative for
CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation/ le Front des Artistes) Saskatchewan.
He is active as an adjudicator for the Camera Club, OSAC, and the Craft
Council. He has given presentations of his photography to the Camera
Club and his furniture was recently showcased at the Symphony Society
Gala fundraiser.

Susan Unger has been profiled
in the latest edition of Galleries West magazine (page 24). An exhibition
of her newest work will open Friday, April 4 at this gallery and will
be available online shortly afterwards.
Martha Cole has an exhibition at
the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina opening March 14 and running to
June 15, 2003. It is entitled 'envisioning the whole'.
A new artist, Fran Werry, has

Please note that the opening reception for each of the exhibitions
will be held on the first Friday of the month.
Martha Cole has a very busy spring planned. In addition to the exhibition
at our gallery, she will be participating in four other exhibitions.
She will be part of a two artist exhibition entitled 'Postcards from
the Playground' at the Front Gallery in Edmonton, May 14 to 29, with
Mary Holdgrafer. As well she has been invited to participate in the
exhibition entitled 'Then and Now' to be held at the McMullen Gallery,
University of Alberta Hospital from April 13 to June 16. This exhibition
features work by quilt/fabric artists from 13 countries. The Alberta
Craft Council is hosting an exhibition by members of the Fibre Arts
Network (an association of professional fibre artists from Western Canada)
from May 4 to June 15. And lastly she is exhibiting at the Blackberry
Gallery at the Port Moody Arts Centre, Port Moody, B.C. from April 3
to April 28.
Laureen Marchand has been selected to participate in an invitational
group exhibition at the Fine Arts Building Gallery in Chicago, Illinois
opening March 1, 2002. The exhibition, called The Ragdale Foundation
Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Show, was selected by internationally known
Chicago-area artist Ed Paschke, to celebrate 25 years of activity by
the Ragdale Foundation residency program. Laureen and Saskatoon artist,
Honor Kever are touring an exhibition throughout Saskatchewan and in
one location in Alberta in 2002-2003.
In addition to preparing for her fall exhibition with husband, Zach
Hauser, Iris Hauser will be part of a two person exhibition, with her
CARFAC trainee, Carol Wylie, at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon.
The exhibition opens March 23. Iris also will be curating an exhibition
of works by emerging artist, Susana Vera for the Mendel Art Gallery
in November, 2002.
Antoinette Hérivel has just recently returned from a 3.5 month
study abroad course. After one month in Tuscany visiting various centres
studying art history, particularly Renaissance and Baroque painting,
she spent the next 2.5 months in Greece learning to use some of the
techniques of the masters. This past fall Antoinette, along with Connie
Mitchell and Iris Hauser, was part of the group show, Dialogue, at the
Rosemont Art Gallery. And in the summer, Antoinette, Laureen Marchand
and Iris Hauser were part of the Sask CARFAC Mentorship Program exhibition,
'Intersections', a group exhibition by mentors and trainees in the CARFAC
mentorship program. The exhibition later went to the Chapel Gallery
in Battlefords.
The CARFAC mentorship program has been very successful and is running
again. Currently Catherine Macaulay, Martha Cole and Iris Hauser are
mentors.
Debbie Wozniak-Bond is part of a group exhibition called 'Relationships'
that is touring the province in 2002 and 2003. It is sponsored by the
Organization of Saskatchewan Art Councils and for information concerning
the dates and places, please contact the OSAC office at 586-1252.
Montreal artists, Diane Collet and Claudine Ascher were part of a group
exhibition in January of this year at the Galerie de la ville. Claudine
also exhibited at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in December/January.
Susan Unger and two other artists will be exhibiting in May at the
Estevan National Exhibition Centre. Susan also will have an exhibition
in 2003 at the McIntyre.
Also we are now showing work by artist/furniture maker, Jamie Russell
of Vanscoy, Sk. He has exhibited around Canada and the United States
and has been involved as coordinator, instructor and presenter at many
seminars.
